Finally City Jazz Big Band has started its work on the first debute album. Most likely the CD will be available for publics in spring 2012, but already now you can make a quick peek on our work progress. We have started to work on our new concert programm “Joe Zawinul/Jaco Pastorius Tribute”. This program will include such pieces as “Black Market”, ”Birdland,” “Teen Town”, ”Three Views Of A Secret” etc. Arrangements are written by our piano player Ritvars Garoza, saxophonist Māris Jēkabsons and band leader Kārlis Vanags.
Together with the City Jazz Big Band “Joe Zawinul/Jaco Pastorius Tribute” features bass virtuoso Victor Bailey.
Since the late seventies, as a teenager, Victor Bailey has been hailed as one of the worlds greatest bass guitarists. He gained international recognition in the early nineteen eighties when he joined the innovative jazz fusion supergroup Weather Report. He has made three of the most highly acclaimed solo records ever by any bassist. As a studio musician he has played on over one thousand records. He has toured and recorded with artists as diverse as Joe Zawinul, Mary J. Blige and Madonna.
He recorded and toured with artists like Weather Report, Weather Update, Steps Ahead, Bill Evans, The Zawinul Syndicate, Madonna, etc.

It was surprising because a 21-piece orchestra followed Francesco Cafiso in the Open Air Leisure Park, and it was composed entirely of young musicians from Riga. It was a bang because they kicked ass.
